Support Grows for ANCA Efforts to Put Bohjalian's Armenian Genocide Epic on the Congressional Summer Reading List
ANCA Joins U.S. Representatives Adam Schiff and Robert Dold in hosting August 1st Capitol Hill Debut
WASHINGTON, DC – Advance praise for Chris Bohjalian's “The Sandcastle Girls” has been pouring in from all corners of the literary and arts circles, prompting Armenian Americans and reading enthusiasts to pre-order the epic Armenian Genocide novel in record numbers prior to its July 17th publication date, reported the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA.)
Armenian Americans are purchasing for their personal book collection and donating copies in support of the ANCA's campaign to help put "The Sandcastle Girls" on the Congressional summer reading list. Community members can pre-order one or more books specifically for distribution on Capitol Hill and legislators across the country through an online donation to the ANCA Endowment Fund on the secure online payment page.
ANCA Leo Sarkisian Program summer interns will be available to pass out the books at the August 1st Capitol Hill event with the author, co-hosted by Congressional Armenian Genocide Resolution lead sponsors, Representatives Robert Dold (R-IL) and Adam Schiff (D-CA). Bohjalian will be meeting with Congressional members throughout the day on August 1 and then offering remarks and signing books beginning at 6 p.m. at the Rayburn House Office Building, Room B-369
With 14 novels already having garnered worldwide accolades, Bohjalian is no stranger to the literary scene with powerful endorsements from all major newspapers including The San Francisco Chronicle, USA Today and The New York Times Book Review, which noted that “few writers can manipulate a plot with Bohjalian’s grace and power.” With unprecedented tributes from Publisher’s Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, Library Journal and Booklist and its addition to the Entertainment Weekly and Good Housekeeping summer must-read lists, 'The Sandcastle Girls' is set to break all readership records on novels dealing with the Armenian Genocide and Armenian American life.
Bohjalian and ‘The Sandcastle Girls’ will take center stage beginning with a special Southern California debut luncheon on July 16 at 11:30 a.m. at the Universal Sheraton Hotel followed by an evening presentation held at Woodbury University Fletcher Jones Auditorium. Tickets for the luncheon are available through the ANCA Western Region office at (818) 500-1918 or online. Order now.
“We have been getting a fantastic response from our community across the Southland, all wanting to be a part of the launch of this epic novel on the Armenian Genocide and the Armenian experience,” said Film and Arts Committee Chairwoman Nora Yacoubian. “With praise coming from all corners of the literary and arts circles, ‘The Sandcastle Girls’ is sure to educate a whole new generation of readers about the horrors of genocide and the trans-generational consequences of its denial.”
Bohjalian will then be traveling to events in San Francisco, CA; Watertown, MA; Warwick, RI; New Milford, NJ and Washington, DC.
