Today, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden Diana Janse (residence in Tbilisi) presented her credentials to the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan.
President Sargsyan congratulated the Ambassador on her appointment and wished her success in her mission. He also said that Armenia is interested in deepening relations with Sweden and welcomes the decision of the Swedish government to establish an embassy in our region, expressing hope that very soon an embassy would be opened in Armenia as well. According to the President, it will become a strong impetus for the enhancement and development of bilateral relations.
The newly appointed Swedish Ambassador said that even though at the moment the Embassy is in Tbilisi, she intends to visit Armenia often.
“Sweden has great interest in this region. We want Armenia to be a strong and prosperous country, which maintains strong relations with the EU and good-neighborly ties with her neighbors. We stand ready to assist you in the process,” said Ambassador Diana Janse.
At the meeting discussed were issues pertinent to the cooperation between Armenia and EU, and relations between Armenia and Turkey. At the request of the Swedish Ambassador, President Serzh Sargsyan presented the current stage of the NK peace process.
President Sargsyan expressed gratitude to Sweden for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, underscoring that the Armenian nation is grateful to all those countries and nations because their recognition not only pays tribute to the memory of the victims of the Genocide and also contributes to the prevention of future genocide.
“The sooner the Turks come to terms with their own past, the better for them and for us. We don’t live in the past, though, and it is proved by the fact that we have been the ones who initiated establishment of relations with Turkey. It doesn’t however mean that the recognition of the Armenian Genocide could ever become a secondary issue for us,” President Sargsyan said at the meeting with the Ambassador of Sweden.
