On May 5, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan participated in the solemn opening of the Global Summit of Women and roundtable devoted to the economic empowerment of women with the participation of women ministers in Istanbul.
The 21st summit has brought together nearly 1,000 representatives from 82 countries. The aim of this global summit, which is full of discussions on political skills and programs, is to create opportunities for ladies and women to play a more active role in the economic development of their respective countries.
Since 2003, the Global Summit of Women has been preceded by a roundtable devoted to women’s economic empowerment with the participation of women ministers. In the past six years, each year women ministers coordinating different spheres gather to exchange experience with skills and programs aimed at increasing economic opportunities for ladies and women.
The participants of the roundtable focus on partnership between the public and private sectors, which has highly contributed to women’s economic empowerment.
Throughout the day, Minister Hakobyan had meetings with representatives of the Istanbul-Armenian community and visited the Holy Savior Armenian hospital where she met with fellow Armenians and the hospital’s trustees.
Accompanying the minister during her visit was RA Permanent Representative to the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Mikayel Vardanyan and assistant professor of the Department of Turkish Studies at the YSU Faculty of Oriental Studies, candidate of historical sciences Ashot Soghomonyan.
The summit will continue on May 6 and 7.
Minister Hakobyan will also meet with representatives of Armenian community organizations.
